Precision Wood Windows has been fabricating custom wood windows for designated Landmark buildings since 1980

All buildings, brownstones, townhouses, condos, etc. fitted with old wood windows that have been designated by the Landmark Preservation Commission are prevented from replacing them with vinyl, aluminum or any other material. Therefore we specialize in duplicating all original styles and designs of old wood windows and doors, using clear ponderosa pine, mahogany and other woods.

We fabricate all windows with true divided lites, double hung, French casements, gothic style, arched, oval etc. In most projects we do recto fit replacement windows, eliminating the old weights and chains. We then install the new completed unit into the existing frame.

Originally, we would install the new sashes into the old frame. That was fine with the Landmark Preservation Commission but it did not help the energy efficiency. We then designed a new narrow line recto fit system. This is an amazing system. As well as duplicating the original style, it has all of the modern energy saving technology such as tilt for easy cleaning, treble weather stripping and so on. With the use of this system we comply with the Landmark Preservation Commission and the property owner enjoys the energy savings.

We do all of our own work from A-Z including:

• All necessary drawing of existing windows and the proposed windows replacements

• Filing applications and obtaining permits from the Landmark Preservation Commission

• We do the demolition, fabrication, supply and installation

• We also provide survey and advice for the property owner

In most situations, the new recto fit is sufficient, but in some cases we may have to replace the exterior portion of the original frame. In other cases, however, we may have to replace the frame as well, all the way to the brick.
